Music and the Arts

Welcome to the SCCS Department of Music! It is our belief that the study of music contributes greatly to the complete education and development of each and every student. The active participation in music-making directly strengthens the mind as well as the spirit. By participating in music, students are not only learning musical concepts and skills; but are also developing a sense of sensitivity, appreciation, discipline, self-confidence, self-esteem, leadership and the importance of practice to achieve success. At Sandusky Central Catholic, we strive to instill many life skills through quality music education in order to shape our students into well rounded individuals. Music instruction begins as early as kindergarten where students attend general music twice a week. This education is continued all the way through fourth grade, during which time students learn concepts and skills through singing, performing, moving and listening. In third grade students have the option to join Music Ambassadors, which meets once a week and performs at various venues throughout the year. In fourth grade we begin instruction on recorders in order to start building interest for our band program. When our students enter 5th grade, they begin to personalize their music instruction. Starting in 5th grade, students have the option to take Band, Choir or General Music. Students who choose band and choir will continue to practice their knowledge from past instruction and will begin learning fundamental skills and concepts of performing in an ensemble setting. Starting in seventh grade, music instruction is specifically for Choral and Instrumental Music. More information about our Choral and Instrumental offerings can be reached through the corresponding links. Upcoming Events:
